Abramson's fifth point is the 'collapse of distances'. The pseudo-intimacy generated by the online experience has complicated our relationship to our own experiences. It has also complicated our relationship to our own inner selves. No longer are we dialectally opposed to what we see and hear through traditional media. We are instead immersed in an intense interplay of opinion and belief to the extent that difficulty arises on determining what content is of ourselves and what has it's origin in others. Strangers are our intimates and daily collaborators while those around us become more and more independent from us.
Number six on the list is 'multiple subjectivites'. The online experience has allowed individuals to interact with others based solely on particular subjects, others who would otherwise have been excluded from our circle for a variety of irrelevant reasons. Our 'circle' then has become a network of forums that contain subject communities. Interpersonal depth and complexity suffer at the hands of subject specific sincerity and meaning. Epistemological meaning is gained at the cost of bodily intimacy. Real time has been conceptually altered.
The third point is 'collaboration'. Not only do people work toward a mutual goal, in metamodernism people work together in such a way that they mutually affect one another. Projects are not just coordinated by a third party. They are formed by interchange and comprimise. If this sounds like group work, that's because it is. The difference is that when the activity is online the record of contributions is evident. There are no free riders here.
The eighth point is 'simultinaity and generative ambiguity' which means that an early understanding of metamodernism has been eclipsed. Whereas the earlier iterations metamodernism incorporated a notion of ocsillation between poles, even multiple poles, the most recent understanding is that seemingly mutually exclusive points of view are held in constant tension. It can be concieved, rather than a slow swing, as a brownian vibration or a dynamic stasis.
